Deconstruction on diegetic sound of Trailers

Deconstruction on Diegetic Sound in Teaser Trailer

Before I Go To Sleep

  • Dialogue which is necessary to vaguely describe the plot is used e.g. "what's happening, who are you?"
  • The diegetic sound that you would hear in the actual film, is cut out and replaced by the diegetic dialogue that the characters are saying.
  • Use of other diegetic sounds e.g. the phone ringing and an EQed voice of  man speaking on the phone, which further develops the plot in the teaser trailer.
  • A lot of the diegetic dialogue is layered on top of scenes, which the dialogue isn't actually from.

The Interview

  • The diegetic sounds of the guitars strumming at the beginning of the trailer, turns into non diegetic music.
  • Once again, it may seem like the dialogue is non diegetic, but it is in fact diegetic sound, that is being laid on top of different scenes in the trailer.
  • Since this is a comedy film, they use dialogue from scenes, which are comedic, which would attract an audience to go and watch it.

Horns

  • Again, use of diegetic dialogue, which seems like non diegetic dialogue, but it eventually matches up to the scene where the dialogue is actually from.
  • But this teaser trailer, does not reveal as much as the other teaser trailers do, and this is more conventional, as this is a "teaser" which makes you want to watch the film and find out more, which id extremely different to a theatrical trailer, which makes you feel like you already know what's going to happen in the film.
