Dead Silence Deconstruction

Dead Silence Deconstruction

  •  In this first scene, there is a zoom in on the boombox that is playing the diegetic, contrapuntal music, whilst the woman is looking in the mirror.
  • The music's pitch then lowers dramatically, which creates a weird screeching sound and this symbolises the start of the misfortune that is about to happen.

  •  Whilst the woman is walking towards the entity out of curiosity, it is covered in a blanket, which gives more suspense as you do not know what is underneath it and what it looks like, as it is only the beginning of the trailer.

  •  References to other films which the writer and director has worked on, so that it can get more publicity.
  • These are usually straight cuts into a black screen with the works slowly fading in.
  • The typography is very irregular, with a lot of variation in size to keep it interesting.

  •  This is an establishing shot to show where the film is set.
  • There is use of pathetic fallacy, because the skies are grey and cloudy which represents the suspense and mood that the trailer and film is trying to convey.

  •  Close up shots of the main character, and in this case it is a adult male, around the age of 25.
  • The dialogue which the main character says during the film, is used as non diegetic sound and a narrative for the trailer. This is usually played on top of several other scenes of the film.

  • As the suspense comes to a climax, there are explosions everywhere and the editing becomes a lot more rapid and more frequent.
  • The music also helps to build more suspense, as it starts to speed up and have more bass drops, so that the quick editing can match to the music.
  • There are high pitched ringing aswell, which highlights the suspense coming to a climax.
