Editing Flash Shots

Editing Flash Shots

  • During the editing of the trailer, we wanted there to be extremely quick flashes of the supernatural entity popping up, so it is almost a subliminal message.
  • So we took a section of one of the scenes we did, and the entity was centred, so we just took a few seconds so we could pop it in.
  • We tried just slipping it in with a straight cut, however, it didn't look good, so we decided to put some Bad TV effect onto it.
  • To make it fit in with the music, we also had to edit the scene before the quick flash, and we did this by taking the clips and cutting them up so we could change the amount of the grain on each individual clip, for it to gradually increase.

  • So the scenes would start to gradually increase e.g.

  • The last scene, has a slight roll on it, to mimic a Bad TV.
  • We then added on the entity's flash, and due to the Bad TV effect beforehand, it blends in very well.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I found that this method was extremely effective, and it is a lot easier to cut up a scene, and adjust them all individually, rather than setting a keychain throughout the scene, which requires extreme precision.
