Deconstruction of Titles
Sinister
- This is a supernatural film, with an evil spirit haunting a family.
- There font is quite an archaic font, however it has been edited to look like it is dripping white paint, which is significant in the film, as the spirit haunts at first, by painting symbols around the house.
- The colour scheme is also the conventional white.
- The caption is very short, but it gets the point across, and immediately tells the audience that it is a supernatural film.
- The name used, is used to describe the type of spirit that is haunting the family.
Smiley
- The name is very blunt and "to the point" as it just describes the type of mask that the villain wears throughout the film. However, it does sound like quite a light hearted film, which may show some irony.
- The font used is very archaic, and doesn't seem like it has been edited too much.
- The caption almost plays a pun, on the mask that the villain wears, as this makes the poster more interesting.
- Red, is used as the colour scheme and once again, this is a conventional colour for a horror film.
The Last Exorcism
- The colour scheme is black, which is also one of the conventional colours for a horror movie.
- The word "the" is significantly smaller than the rest of the title, which shows that it is less important that the other two words.
- The use of different sizes in the title, also makes it more interesting and more appealing to the eye.
- Not only, does the words have different sizes, the placement and the size of the letters are ever so slightly displaced, almost as if the letters are floating around.
- The font is very archaic, which is typical of exorcism movies, but there are little black dots that are edited in, to make it seem like it was written on a piece of parchment with an ink pen.
In conclusion, the titles should be short and to the point, and also makes a reference to the movie, and if it is a horror film, it should use a more archaic font and most definitely one of the conventional colours, of white, black and red.
