Practical : Cinematography

Practical : Cinematography

  •   In this practical, I wanted to experiment with the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen.
  • In the video, I put the original footage first, and then the edited one with the black bars straight afterwards.
  • I feel like the black bars makes the footage look more cinematic, as it looks more "widescreen" because you are chipping off some of the height of the footage.
  • Unlike in porcelain, where I used a ready made edit, which added the bars on top, I cropped and transformed the footage myself, which meant that I could fully control the places I wanted to frame on the picture.
  • If you want to use black bars, you might need to be aware of that whilst you film, as you may not want to zoom in as much as you originally planned, as you have to remember that some of it will be chopped off due to the black bars.
