In order to deconstruct horror film typography, I chose three film posters from which the film is set in the woods. They include The Blair Witch Project, The Last House on the Left and Shrooms.
The Blair Witch Project
- Colour scheme: white, black and red
- Small, gothic, archaic font
- Capital Letters within the title
The Last House on the Left
- Colour Scheme: Black, white and red
- Capital Letters within the title
- Blood splatters on the most eye catching word "House"
- Large font - archaic, gothic, shows age
Shrooms
- Colour scheme: White, black, blue
- small font - archaic, gothic, old
- font looks like it is glowing due to the light lines coming off of it from both the top and bottom
- Capital Letters
Something I realised that all these typography's have in common, is that none of them have any relation to the idea that the film is set in the woods; therefore, this could be something to consider when creating the typography for our film opening.
Based on this investigation, I have noticed that most of these films appear to:
- have their font in white
- make their font look, old, archaic and gothic
- have their font in capital letters
- do something to make it more interesting e.g. light lines or blood splatters
