Costume Deconstruction
- Our idea is based very heavily on this trailer, with use of found footage, and footage from a proper camera.
- They seem to be wearing very wintery clothing, and they are wrapped up in a lot of clothing, as this shows that the weather is cold, and this creates a very scary atmosphere within the film, as it would not be stereotypical to have a horror movie set in the scorching summer.
- There are a lot of checkered clothing on top of an inner vest top and use of scarves, unless they are inside a house.
- This film is shot inside a house, so they aren't as wrapped up as they would be outside.
- However, even though they are inside, one of the sons are still wrapped up in layers, with a shirt and a hoodie over the top of it, showing that it is not during the summertime.
- The young girls are usually wearing a t-shirt top with some shorts, which is the same as their sleepwear.
- The mother is usually wearing something very simple, such as a 3/4 arm length top and some trousers.
- Overall, they needed to make the film realistic, so they had to use clothes that an average family would wear.
- There is a cast of male and female group of around 18+years old, so they are in university.
- They are wearing very youthful clothes, such as shirts, parkas, jeans.
- They are also very wrapped up, with a lot of layers, which suggests the cold weather, and it makes them seem like they are exploring something, as it would be weird to be wearing shorts etc.
- Use of hats and gloves are used.
- They also have use of props such as a full industry standard videoing camera, so we may have to take that idea, and maybe get a fake prop version of the camera.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I feel that it would make our film more realistic, if we have our characters wrap up in a lot of layers and wear a large parka or coat on the outside, and to have them wearing jeans or something that is suitable for the exploration of a place. Since we will not be shooting in a house, it wouldn't make sense for us to be wearing shorts, and when we do start shooting the film, it will be in the winters.
