Practical: Night Vision on Location

I visited our shooting location and photographed the woods where we would be filming. I used a high ISO in order to make the image appear as light as possible in order for me to be able to photoshop it to the best of my ability.

Here is the original image:

At first, I added "noise" to the image which gave it a very grainy effect and made it appear as though it is found footage. I used 10% noise otherwise it became very difficult in order to tell what the image was originally. 


With this effect laid over the top of my image, I needed to increase the realism so I made the entire image green which is very stereotypical of night vision within a horror film. 


I then selected an inch gap around the entire image and used "gaussian blur" to make the "screen" of the image stand out more than the border around the edge. I changed the curves and the levels in order to darken up the edge of the image so that it became believable as to what it officially was. 





Finally I inserted the following image: 


I used the magic eraser in order to delete the green background of the image. I then held "Cmd+T+Shft" in order to drag the image across my newly made image in order to give the effect of being a live camera recording.
