Tag Line Deconstruction

Tag Line Deconstruction

  • We needed to decide on a tag line for our film, so we needed to do some research for our tagline.

Humpty Dumpty

  •  This tag line, is very descriptive, as it literally describes what the film is about, by describing where the entity came from, whilst having the entity being the centre of the poster.
  • The font also slowly becomes smaller and smaller, which makes it eerie, as it seems like it is trying to hide.
  • The splitting of the tag line into 3 lines also creates tension, as it makes the audience pause when they are reading the tag line, and it also shows that they have simplified the plot of the story to only these 3 lines.

The Possession

  •  This is very blunt, and not very informative of the actual plot, as it doesn't give anything away other than that it is based on a true story.
  • This would actually make the film more scary, as it would make the audience believe that it is a real story, so that it could actually happen. Whether or not it is actually based on a true story is not confirmed.

Orphan

  • Once again, this is very straight to the point, as describes the girl as "something wrong" with her.
  • This immediately gives the sense of terror to the audience, as you know that this girl is the focal point of the scary happenings.
  • It is all laid out in one line, and the typography is very bold, which makes it stand out against the green background.
  • The full stop at the end, also makes it very blunt, unlike "The Possession" as it leaves it ambigious.

Sinister

  • The tag line is actually relatively small, compared to the title.
  • Once again, this tag line describes the supernatural entity, rather than anything else or the plot, so already you know that there will be supernatural happenings once you have seen the entity.
  • The typography of the tag line matches with the title, as it seems like a smaller font version of the title font, without any of the shadows or the drips of ink.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I think the tagline should not be too long, and quite straight to the point, so that the audience can immediately know that will happen in the film, without having to stand there and properly read it.
